John 10:30-36
I and the Father are one.” Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be a god.” Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

There is a difference between the types of ‘gods’ seen in scriptures. Anyone in the likeness of God or who acts on behalf of God is considered ‘god’ as well as anyone posing to be a ‘god’ who is not is called ‘false god’. The Hebrew and Greek meaning of the word is much different than the English understanding.

Exodus 7:1
I have made you [Moses] the god of Pharoah, and Aaron is your prophet.

Exodus 22:8
[...] the owner of the house must appear before the god [judge] to determine whether he has taken his neighbor’s property.

Psalm 8:6
You made humanity a little lower than the heavenly gods [angels]

Anyone acting on behalf of God, doing God’s will, or anyone in a high position is called ‘god’, but above them is the true God who made them [YHWH]. He is the God of gods and Lord of lords.

1 Corinthians 8:5
There are those called gods both in heaven and earth and many lords, yet to us one God, the Father whom we all are for. There is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom we are able to live.

In John 10:30-36, the opponents to Jesus claimed that he was claiming to be a god, but Jesus turns around and says they are also called gods because God gave them his word (the Torah), but the next claim that Jesus makes says he is the messiah who is the one who not only has the word, but speaks the word of God, but also does the word. It’s like telling someone “You are called a doctor because someone gave you a degree made of paper, but I’m called a doctor because I not only have the degree - I actually also practice medicine.” He then goes a step further and says if you don’t believe I have the degree, then watch me in my practice and believe me based on what I do - which angered them even more as if he was accusing them of not practicing what they read about.

John 10:37-39
If I do not do the works of my father, do not believe me, but if I do them, though you do not believe me, believe the works so that you may know and understand the Father is in me and I am in the Father. Therefore they were seeking again to seize him and he eluded their grasp.
